two years old and see why our many happy parents say our office is an inviting place that their children love to visit. Whether
you have a rowdy seven-year-old or a timid two-year-old, we are here to help you.
A Lifetime Foundation of Good Habits
Dr. Cox and Dr. Kunkel share your goals for preserving your child’s outstanding health. We want to help them learn proper dental
care from the beginning and foster a lifetime foundation of strong dental habits.
There are many factors that contribute to your child’s teeth being vulnerable to cavities from a very young age. Little kids often
don’t have the dexterity to brush correctly on their own. Because of this, it is imperative for parents to assist in their child’s
daily hygiene. This encourages both good cleaning and the development of appropriate dental habits. Poorly cleaned teeth are more
likely to decay when exposed to food and juice acids. Small children tend to eat constantly throughout the day. This type of extended
exposure to food acids often results in more cavities.
The good news is that recognizing poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with employing a fluoride varnish to the mineralizing teeth,
can drastically reduce the odds of your child developing a cavity.
Preventing Child Tooth Decay – the Easy Way!
No matter how old we are, achieving spotless teeth with a toothbrush and floss is difficult. This is particularly true for children
whose hand-eye coordination isn’t completely developed. This results in bacteria and acid being left behind to form plaque, which will
eventually cause decay. And once a tooth has decay, it is damaged forever and will need a filling or a crown.
The application of dental sealants helps counteract all this. The treatment is harmless, painless, and takes just a few minutes to complete.
After their teeth are cleaned and sterilized, a thin, white or clear plastic coating is brushed over the enamel. Then a curing light is
focused on the sealant to bond it into place. This requires no shots, drills, or the removal of any tooth structure. Applying dental sealants
is one of the best preemptive actions both children and adolescents can have done to save their natural teeth!
